BELOW THE SURFACE

OCTOBER 1, 2001

Over the last couple of weeks I, like just about everyone else in the country, have been trying to absorb all the information coming at us about the terrorist attack of September 11, 2001, and our nation's response to it, and trying to make some sense of what we've been hearing. One thing seems almost certain: we are going to lose some of our freedoms. We will have even less privacy than we have now and it looks like the push for a national identity card is just around the corner, even though the President says he is not in favor of it.

I assume the terrorists represented the militant, fundamentalist Islam faction and that there will likely be other attacks, and they could be anywhere, but I also believe the globalist factions will utilize the opportunity to expedite our entrée into the New World Order. We have observed the Congress is seemingly attempting to get some controversial legislation (for example, CARA "Conservation and Reinvestment Act" - some have called it the Confiscation and Relocation Act) approved while attention is diverted.

And we are hearing the clarion call that the United Nations' International Criminal Court needs to be put in place for just such individuals as those who plotted the mayhem visited on New York City and Washington. The point was made early that for our responsive action to be legal under international law we needed the sanction of the UN Security Council. According to the UN Charter, of which we are a signatory, this is true.

At the moment, it doesn't look like president Bush is going to move troops immediately into Afghanistan. He seems to be moving cautiously, which he should. We question the real need for calling up the National Guard units that have been called up. The active reservists is another situation, they are already federal troops. But the National Guard are state troops and could well be needed by the states in the event a state becomes a terrorist target, the object of some natural disaster or a civil disruption. We are very much concerned that we are seeing the coalescing of a national police force, something foreign to the kind of government established by our Constitution.

The unification of the nation is the biggie we keep hearing repeated over and over by all the media, but if one listens carefully to some of the rhetoric we hear coming from our elected officials there is also a unity of the nations taking place. Comments are not infrequent that talk about our global society, even while we appear to be exercising a tremendous outpouring of nationalism. This is consistent with the globalist approach, say one thing while you work to accomplish the opposite.

We continue to see the imposition of political correctness. Reverend Falwell made a rash statement reflecting a great deal of truth for which he has been severely criticized by even such notables as Walter Cronkite (a self avowed one-worlder) and for which he later apologized. I differ slightly with the Reverend's comments. I do not think God is pouring out His judgment upon us because the pagans among us continue to practice their sinful ways, but I do think He may be judging us because we Christians have sat idly by (for the most part) while we have allowed the pagans among us to usurp the reins of government and infiltrate the high offices of state and church.

I read or heard one commentator remark that as he watched the burning towers at the World Trade Center he could not help but think of that passage in Revelation that says: "And the kings of the earth, who have committed fornication and lived deliciously with her, shall bewail her, and lament for her, when they shall see the smoke of her burning, Standing afar off for the fear of her torment, saying, Alas, alas that great city Babylon, that mighty city! for in one hour is thy judgment come. And the merchants of the earth shall weep and mourn over her; for no man buyeth their merchandise any more." (Rev.18:9-11) I must confess that my thoughts were of a similar nature. It took just about an hour for the two towers to collapse, and New York City has been traditionally called "The Babylon on the Hudson."

I continue to pray that our Lord will use this event to draw His people back to Himself and to bring revival to our nation. I see that as our final hope for the continuation of our Republic.
