GLOBAL WARMING: FACT OR FICTION

An article in the Birmingham News on page 3a Friday November 13, 1998 stated that acting US Ambassador to the United Nations A. Peter Burleigh had signed The Climate Change Treaty. The treaty is a direct result of Agenda 21 held in Rio de Janeiro in 1992. The purpose of the treaty is stated in Article 2: "The ultimate objective of this Convention and any related legal instruments....is to achieve,.... stabilization of greenhouse gas concentrations in the atmosphere at a level that would prevent dangerous anthropogenic interference with the climate system." The Clinton Administration has agreed with the United Nations that the activities of man (anthropogenic) are interfering with the climate systems of the world. The (almost) established world governing body, the United Nations, has also concluded that the processes of nature must be controlled. This is apparent from the UN's definition of Greenhouse Gases, which includes "....both natural and anthropogenic...." (Article 1, definitions.)

One may reasonably ask: "What scientific evidence will this attempt to reduce man's activities and nature's processes be based upon?"

Their answer: "Where there are threats of serious or irreversible damage, lack of full scientific certainty should not be used as a reason for postponing such measures." (Article 3)

A reduction of greenhouse gas emissions for the United States will likely be 7% below 1990 levels. The average informed voter may think the U. S. Senate will prevent the enactment of such dangerous restrictions on the way we Americans live. Nothing could be further from the truth.

Local municipal laws can raise gasoline tax and reduce gasoline use. They can enact restrictions on old and new buildings which will restrict emissions and raise cost. They can enact zoning laws which will encourage one type of dwelling while discouraging another type, which could raise the cost of energy for the homeowner. They can, as Portland, Ore. has already done, establish boundaries around the city to restrict "urban sprawl." This limits the individual's choices of home/business sites which will raise the cost of those available.

That average informed voter might respond: "Treaties establish law between national governments not local governments." Again nothing could be further from the truth.

"Local governments, in partnership with their residents and local businesses, are taking action. ICLEI (International Council for Local Environmental Initiatives) was established in 1990 through a partnership of the United Nations Environment Programme, the International Union of Local Authorities (IULA), and the Center for Innovative Diplomacy. ICLEI maintains a formal association with IULA." http://www.iclei.org/iclei.htm

That well informed voter may ask: How can so many cities across the US be influenced like that?"

Answer: The United Nations Association of the United States of America

This organization's stated purpose is: "The United Nations Association of the United States of America (UNA-USA) is a nonprofit, nonpartisan national organization dedicated to enhancing U.S. participation in the United Nations system and to strengthening that system as it seeks to define and carry out its mission. UNA-USA's action agenda uniquely combines education and public research, substantive policy analysis, and ongoing U.S.-U.N. dialogue." http://www.unausa.org/about_unausa/

Of course, just what influence these organizations may have exerted, or may still exert, on local governments with regard to their participation in UN strategies may never be known.

In conclusion: Prior to World War II man's activities had not significantly impacted the amount of fossil fuel residue in the atmosphere. Since World War II there has been a proliferation of global industrial development. If global warming exists as a result of man's activities, the temperature since World War II should show that increase. The graph below includes a trend line which shows a decline rather than a rise in temperature, and temperature charts going back hundreds of years do not indicate global warming. The only real indicator of global warming has been a "computer model."

Why then are we being fed this lie about global warming? The way Daniel Esty, former US negotiator, puts it: "you cannot manage the international economic system without taking account of efforts to address....climate change....."

Management and control of the Global Economic System and the redistribution and equalization of wealth are the ultimate goals. The Climate Change Treaty is one of the tools being used to accomplish those goals!
