The “Con” in “Constitutional Convention” Click here to view the "Money Trail Flow Chart " The very idea that a bunch of folks, no matter what their qualifications or dedication, are going to knock together a workable Constitution over a couple of weekends in the lobby of the Marriott Hotel would be laughable, were it not so sad. Our present Constitution took 82 days of hard negotiation and the minutes of that debate are over 5,000 pages in length. No, these pilgrims might have time to look over parts of the documents created for them and say “Amen” when told to, but they certainly would not have time to create, debate, and formulate anything workable, much less desirable, as a replacement for our present Constitution. (See- What American Citizens Need to Know About Consensus and Facilitation ) And what is the source of the money behind this Con? Sixty rooms in a plush hotel, times three nights, plus catered meals for everyone for three days is serious money. Usually when people spend that kind of money they expect something in return, and you can learn a lot from following the money trail. This time all the money trails lead back to a group called Greater Birmingham Ministries (GBM). GBM almost certainly facilitated the financing for this effort. But who is GBM and where does their money come from? An internet search for GBM and affiliated organizations leads to the conclusion that GBM serves as a sort of “clearing house” and distribution point for foundation money from outside Alabama. Huge liberal leaning foundations have poured millions of outside dollars into GBM and sister organizations under the heading of Social Justice, largely targeting an effort to re-write the Alabama Constitution. A Mr. Scott Douglas heads up GBM and is also the Vice-Chairman of Alabama Citizens for Constitutional Reform (ACCR) the front group for re-writing the constitution. A book entitled, “Seven Profiles” by Sally Lehrman includes a biography of Douglas. (See: www.changingcourse.org ) For those of you
without a computer, these quotes from his biography should suffice. Quote: “Douglas went from one job to another in Birmingham until he
landed some work with the Southern Organizing Committee for Economic and Social
Justice. Organizing turned out to be a good fit, and soon he joined the Communist
Party staff. His job included selling the Daily
Worker to employees driving through the gates into the U.S. Steel plant,”
and, “In the Communist Party, he had been a member of the
religious caucus. For him and other religious members, socialism was a
means of serving their faith [italics added].” Mr. Scott Douglas and his associates strongly promote Social Justice. For most Americans the words Communism and Socialism leave a bad taste in their mouths. The term Social Justice, I suppose, is more palatable. David Horowitz of the David Horowitz Freedom Center says that Social Justice is "shorthand for opposition to American traditions of individual justice and free-market economics," in other words, socialism, whereby government takes from those who produce and then gives it to those who, for whatever reason, do not. The obvious
affinity these outside entities have for Social Justice
brings us to what many people believe is the real reason behind the movement to
re-write the Alabama Constitution: your
money and your property. More pointedly, the re-write is the means to take more
of your hard earned dollars in the form of taxes. It is also an attempt to
“socialize” or regulate and zone the use of your property. Our present
Constitution has some of the strongest protections against unbridled taxation
and property theft of any constitution ever created, by giving you, through the
amendment process, a chance to vote against such measures. The AEA, politicians
and others wanting more taxation, and organizations promoting massive economic
re-distribution schemes, are all restrained by your rights under our present
Constitution. ALERT:
The Taxation Committee Report read aloud to the delegates of this Mock
Convention called for a fifty percent (50%) increase in property taxes! Will we, as citizens and voters, be so un-educated,
apathetic, and gullible that we will be led like sheep to the destruction of a
Constitution that has given us freedom and protection for so long? Defending our present Constitution is the best and the only certain way to protect both our property and our pocketbooks. .
